Do I need to buy anything additional when I place my order?
All of the R-Straps and Bags come with the appropriate and most recent FastenR and ConnectR. If you would like more information on the hardware that comes with each product please visit the individual product pages.
How do I know if my R-Strap is fitting right?
For maximum comfort it is recommended that you adjust your strap so that your camera will rest next to your hip at “hand level”. This is the height at which your palm rests comfortably against your thigh. The “R” logo should always be facing forward to ensure that you have the most comfortable fit.
Where can I see the product on an actual person?
Do I have to purchase additional FastenR's?
Our straps come with all of the hardware you will need. However, if you would like to quickly switch the R-Strap between multiple cameras you have the option to purchase additional FastenR’s.
What are the main differences between the straps?
The Classic (RS-4) and the Cargo (RS-5) are designed with a straight shoulder pad, which allows you the opportunity to wear them on either your left or your right shoulder. These two straps also offer built in storage. The Classic has a single pocket for memory cards or smaller batteries. Whereas the Cargo has three pockets, one outside and two inside.
The Curve (RS-7) has an ergonomically shaped pad which provides a great fit for right handed shooters. The Curve is the most customizable of our straps due to the buckle and adjuster being on the back. It’s compatible with all of our Mods so if you’d like, you can add additional storage with our pockets, an underarm strap with our Brad, or extra length with our Bert.
The Sport Straps are meant for the active photographer. The unique pad shape and built in underarm strap allow for extra grip during even the most extreme situations. There are both right handed and left handed straps available and they are compatible with our Bryce pocket.
The Double straps are for photographers who carry two camera bodies at once allowing quick and easy access to two cameras with two lenses in the blink of an eye. Additionally, the Double Straps are compatible with the Joey Pocket MODs and can be detached, then used as a single strap.
The Women’s straps are designed by and for women. They have a unique shaped pad that curves down the center of the chest for added comfort.
What are MODs?
Will the Brad work with my strap?
The Brad is compatible with all of our R-Straps. However, it isn’t a secure fit on the Women’s strap so it may move around a bit on the strap.
Will the CoupleR work with my straps?
The BlackRapid CoupleR is a replacement for the CoupleR included with the Double straps. Historically it has been used to combine two straight pad straps. This is compatible with the Classic, Cargo (mix and match) or the slings included with the SnapR 20 and SnapR 35.
Will the Cargo (RS-5)'s magnets damage my______________?
The neodymium magnets in the Cargo’s closures will not affect your phone, storage cards, etc. You do, however, want to avoid actual magnetic media like tapes. For products sensitive to magnetic fields, please consult the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Is the Double Strap more comfortable than combining two single straps with the CoupleR?
Since the Double straps are specifically designed to be used with two cameras they tend to be more comfortable for most individuals. However, the CoupleR provides a great alternative for those wishing to turn their current single straps into a double.
What kind of cell phones will fit in the Cargo (RS-5)'s phone pocket?
The pocket is large enough for iPhones (without a case) and similarly sized smart phones.
Which straps work with the Bryce Pocket?
The Bryce Pocket is designed to work with all BlackRapid straps. However due to certain design features, there are known issues on the following straps:
The Cargo (RS-5) - Since the Cargo already has built in pockets on the pad, the Bryce would need to be attached to the strap itself.
The Woman’s (RS-W1) - Although the Bryce does fit the Women’s Strap, it isn’t a secure fit and will move around a bit on the strap.
My lens has a tripod mount, should I attach my strap to my lens?
The FastenR can be attached to either your tripod mount or your lens ( if equipped with a mount). Some photographers find they achieve a better balance with the FastenR attached to their lens. However, it’s an individual preference and both will work well.
What do I do if my strap's pad slips off my shoulder while I'm photographing?
We suggest that you firmly push your camera away from yourself, keeping tension as you bring it up to take a photo. This will decrease the likelihood of your strap slipping off your shoulder.
We also offer the Brad for extra support.
What straps can be used over both shoulders?
Can our straps be used with binoculars?
Yes, you can use our straps with your binoculars. We suggest that you place your BlackRapid strap on first so that you have easy access to your binoculars when you need them. It is also possible to attach our straps directly to your binoculars if they have a 1/4-20” tripod mount.
Can our straps be used with backpacks?
Our straps can be used with backpacks. We suggest that you put your strap on and adjust it before putting on your backpack. However, if your backpack has front straps it will restrict the gliding motion of your camera.
How can I clean my strap?
You can wash your strap by hand or in the washing machine. We recommend that you remove the FastenR prior to washing your strap. If you’re using a washing machine, you may want to cover your ConnectR to protect it from banging around inside your machine. We also suggest that you air dry your strap (do not put it in the dryer).
Can the Double be used as a single?
Yes, the Double is also designed so you can use the right handed section (with the Logo on it) as a single strap for right handed photographers. Simply remove the front chest strap and the back connection. It is also possible to use the left section (for left handed photographers), however the back connection will remain loose on the strap.
What are the loops and clips for on the top of the Double (DR-1) shoulder pads?
Currently, you can use the loops to attach small clasps, bags, or other small personal attachments you may have.
How much weight can your straps support?
The R-Straps are designed to hold all professional level cameras and equipment
Is your Tripod FastenR (FR-T1) only compatible with Manfrotto RC2?
Currently, our FR-T1 is only compatible with the Manfrotto RC2 Quick Release Plate. However, our design team is continually working on new designs and products to try and meet our customer’s camera needs.
What is your longest strap?
Our longest straps are the Classic , the Cargo, the Sport and the Sport Left (all 167.5 cm/ 65.9”). However, the Curve and the Doubles (160 cm/ 63”) can be combined with the Bert Mod to extend them up to an additional 38cm/ 15”.
How do I know if I should purchase a Slim strap?
We recommend the Slim version for you if you measure yourself from point 1 (see diagram below) to point 2 and the length is 38cm (15”) or less. This is the area where the pad will rest comfortably in front all the way back to your shoulder blade. If you will be using heavier gear, we recommend trying the non-slim straps because the wider pad will help distribute the weight better.
