Frank Masi Sporting the ‘On Set’ Strap – Out in the Field with a Hollywood Legend

We’re thrilled to share a fresh shot straight from the set: renowned unit stills photographer Frank Masi rocking our On Set strap (the Jasin Boland collaboration) while on location in the lush jungles of O’ahu!

Frank sent us this photo himself, capturing him in full camo mode amid the tropical terrain—ready to blend in and capture those epic behind-the-scenes moments without missing a beat.

Frank has been a BLACKRAPID ambassador for years, relying on our straps to handle the demands of big-budget action films. As one of the most respected names in motion picture still photography, he’s shot over 75 major motion pictures, specializing in high-octane blockbusters where long days, fast movement, and heavy gear are the norm.

Some of Masi’s standout credits include:

• Multiple films with Bruce Willis, kicking off with Armageddon (1998) and continuing through Unbreakable, Live Free or Die Hard, and A Good Day to Die Hard.
• Several projects with Dwayne Johnson, including Jumanji (2017) and Rampage (2018).
• Other fan favorites like The Rock, The Hangover, Hancock, Signs, War of the Worlds, and I, Tonya.

His career highlights? Getting hired on The Rock (which he says changed his life), regular collaborations with A-listers like Willis and Johnson, and winning the Publicist Guild Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Motion Picture Still Photography in 2012. In 2020, the Society of Camera Operators honored him with their own lifetime achievement recognition.

When he’s not on set capturing those iconic key art shots and BTS magic, Frank channels his energy into motorcycles—he rides, collects, and even restores them—along with his vintage ’66 Mustang GT Convertible and a collection of classic gas/oil signs.
