Although I have an engineering background, I built my career around traveling to off-the-grid locations for work to witness and experience beautiful places and the surrounding culture.

Trekking along with the kitchen staff in the Himalayas

When I was working with a trekking company in the Indian Himalayas, I was capturing landscapes and moments visible only when deep inside remote mountain valleys. I was documenting and observing the kitchen staff operations – they could prepare a full meal spread for a group of people within 30 minutes. They were very productive and efficient in a small space in the middle of nowhere.

I started shooting them more and they accepted me as part of their own crew. The kitchen tent was so warm compared to the outside, I sat next to the gas stove and documented their work. They kept offering me something to drink and eat even before serving the clients.

When we woke up in the morning our breakfast was whatever was left over from last night, combined, heated up and served to the crew. Initially, I had questions, but later it was the tastiest meal I ever had in the mountains.
